JS Big Baron Softboard Epoxy Core Surfboard
Description
JS Big Baron Softboard | Byron Bay
The JS Big Baron softboard is a high-volume, durable softboard that makes small-wave days easier and more fun, whether you’re learning to surf or you’re an experienced surfer who just wants to get out there and enjoy yourself.
JS built the Big Baron to take the best of its performance range and wrap it in a forgiving soft shell. It’s made with the same quality materials and construction methods as JS’s performance boards, including a carbon T-stringer, and finished with a soft 3mm PE shell and a microdot thermoform bottom. It’s more rigid and responsive than a typical softboard, and it’s available to see in person at Boards in the Bay in Byron Bay, or shipped Australia-wide.
Why surfers choose the JS Big Baron
- Easy paddling and wave catching: Generous volume through the plan shape makes it simple to paddle into waves and stand up.
- Forgiving and safe: The soft shell lets kids and beginners paddle into waves with less worry about dings, to themselves or the board.
- Surfs better than a typical softboard: A flat rocker generates speed and glide in small waves, and a vee through the board with added double concave through the fins helps it rock from rail to rail.
- Strong where it counts: A carbon T-stringer adds stiffness and strength, with controlled flex through turns and speed down the line.
- Has a bit of weight to it: The Big Baron has just the right weight to hold momentum on the wave, so you can still commit to your turns.
- Flexible fin setup: It comes as a thruster and can also be ridden as a twin or 2+1.
Best conditions and who it suits
The Big Baron is designed for small days at your local beach, up to about 3ft. It’s a good fit for beginners, grommets, returning surfers and experienced surfers who want a fun, low-pressure board in softer surf. In Byron Bay, that means mellow spots like Watego's and Clarkes Beach on small days. For bigger or more powerful waves, ask us about a more performance orientated board.
How to size your JS Big Baron
JS’s advice for the Big Baron range is to start with a couple more litres than your regular board, then go bigger depending on your experience and the waves you’ll be riding. Beginners and heavier surfers should generally choose more volume for easier paddling and stability. If you’re not sure, call us on 02 6685 8861 or drop into the shop at 12/12 Lawson Street, Byron Bay, and we’ll help you pick the right size for your height, weight and ability.
