Surfboard Leashes
A surfboard leash is a vital piece of equipment for any surfer. It keeps your board attached to you, preventing it from drifting away or striking you in a wave. In challenging conditions, a leash can be a lifeline, helping you stay safe and maintain control.
Choosing the Right Leash:
- Length: The length of your leash should generally match the length of your surfboard. For example, if you have a 6'6" board, a 7' leash would be appropriate.
- Construction: Leashes come in various constructions, each designed to suit different surfing styles and wave conditions.
Types of Leashes:
- Regular (Standard, All-Round): These are the most common type of leash, suitable for a wide range of surfers and conditions. They typically have a 7mm diameter cord.
- Competition (Comp): Comp leashes are designed for smaller waves and offer less drag. They have a thinner cord diameter but may not be as strong as regular leashes.
- Big Wave: Designed for larger waves, big wave leashes are thicker, longer, and often feature a quick-release pin for safety in extreme conditions.
