Description

JS Golden Child Squash Tail PU Surfboard | Byron Bay

The JS Golden Child squash tail PU is a high-performance shortboard built for good and powerful waves. It’s a modern take on a JS classic, designed for surfers who want sharp, responsive performance when the surf is firing.

Based on the original 2009 Golden Child, this updated version has a refined deck roll and rails influenced by current surfboard design. The squash tail gives the board drive and hold in the pocket, and this PU version is made in Australia with the engaged feel that polyurethane is known for. It’s available to see in person at Boards in the Bay in Byron Bay, or we can ship Australia-wide.

Why surfers choose the JS Golden Child

  • Built for power: The Golden Child is designed to push the limits in good, powerful surf, and it’s most at home on clean, well-formed waves. Think clean head high Tallows or Broken Head Point when it's on!
  • Instant response: A flatter vee deck (rather than the dome deck on some modern JS shapes) puts you closer to the water for extra sensitivity and quick feedback underfoot.
  • Control in critical sections: Medium-plus rocker gives you more control when the wave stands up, and narrower nose and tail outlines add precision.
  • Extra hold: A concave with a bit less depth than the Monsta gives more grip through turns. A single concave starting at the nose runs into a double concave in front of the fins.
  • Squash tail drive: The squash tail holds a line and generates speed off the bottom, with enough release for tight, committed turns.

Best conditions and who it suits

This board is for intermediate to advanced surfers chasing performance in good-quality waves. In the Byron area, that means it’s a natural fit for the points and clean beachies when they line up, like Broken Head and Tallows on a good swell. If you mostly surf small, weak or mushy waves, look at the JS Xero Fusion or JS Sub Xero, which we also stock.

How to size your JS Golden Child

JS suggests riding the Golden Child about 1-2 inches longer than your usual everyday shortboard, with the same width or 1/8" narrower. For reference, JS team rider Julian Wilson (6'0", 80 kg) rides a 6'1" x 18 3/4" x 2 7/16" at 28.8 litres. If you’re between sizes, call us on 02 6685 8861 or drop into the shop at 12/12 Lawson Street, Byron Bay, and we’ll help you choose the right size for your weight, ability and desired conditions.
